Liberty County Precinct 4 Commissioner Norman Brown (left) and Coastal Water Authority Board Member Buster French (center) receive a briefing from Gary N. Oradat, CWA Executive Director, on the Luce Bayou Project. Mr. French was appointed to the CWA Board in 1969 by Governor Preston Smith, and represents Liberty County.

On April 10, CWA Executive Director, Gary N. Oradat, met with Liberty County Judge Phil Fitzgerald, and Liberty County Commissioners Lee Groce and Norman Brown to discuss the Luce Bayou Project.  Also in attendance were TCB Project Director Mike Reedy and Community Outreach Coordinator Anya McInnis (formerly Anya Haidusek).

During the briefings, Judge Fitzgerald expressed his desire that the economy of Liberty County benefit from the $250 million project which will bring additional surface water to Harris and Montgomery Counties.  While voicing his support for the project, Commissioner Groce asked that TCB investigate the potential impact of the project on the existing drainage patterns in the project area.  Mr. Reedy stated that the project’s goal is to be “drainage neutral,” meaning that while the project may not improve the drainage in the area, it will not have an adverse impact.

Finally, Commission Brown stated his commitment to ensuring that Liberty County continues to prosper and benefit from projects such as Luce Bayou.  Commissioner Brown stated, “The Luce Bayou project is but one element of a comprehensive plan to improve the economy of Liberty County.  It must be coordinated with other vital initiatives such as transportation”.  Commissioner Brown currently chairs the Alliance for Bayport-Cleveland Corridor Development. ABCCD is a non-profit 501(c)6 corporation established to promote and facilitate the planning, development and construction of a multi-modal industrial logistics corridor on Houston's east side.   The Bayport-Cleveland Corridor will connect the Port of Houston and other area ports to the Trans-Texas I-69 Corridor at Cleveland.
