Region H Water Planning Group

News Release

February 8, 2007

On February 8, 2007, Gary Oradat, Executive Director of the Coastal Water Authority made a presentation about the Luce Bayou Project to the Region H Water Planning Group.  The Luce Bayou Project has been substantially modified from the project presented by the 2007 Texas Water Plan based on stakeholder regulatory and resource agency concerns. Through agency consensus, the preferred alternative conveyance mechanism has been defined as a canal alternative corridor south of Luce Bayou.

Brandt Mannchen, Chair of the Forestry Committee of the Houston Regional Group of the Sierra Club (HSC) commented that HSC would not want Luce Bayou used as a conduit for water transfer flows and asked CWA to share future environmental studies at a Region H meeting. Mr. Mannchen was informed that the lower urbanized reach of the Luce Bayou channel near the backwaters of Lake Houston will accommodate the projected increase in water flows and will not require channel widening.
