The purpose of the Luce Bayou Interbasin Transfer Project (Luce Bayou Project) is to provide additional water supply into Lake Houston from the Trinity River in order to meet the growing demand for water in unincorporated north and west Harris County, the City of Houston, Fort Bend County and Montgomery County for the next 50 years.
The project will allow the optimization of existing City of Houston water supplies in the Trinity River Basin by providing the conveyance facilities to transfer these supplies to Lake Houston. The Coastal Water Authority (CWA) is responsible for implementing the project.
CWA received notice in January 2011 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District that an Environmental Impact Statement will be required for the Luce Bayou Project. CWA is now working with the Galveston District to initiate the EIS process.
The Luce Bayou Project is expected to be in service and delivering water to Lake Houston on or before the year 2020. The Luce Bayou Project has always been a vital part of long-term water supply planning for the region and is currently a critical component of the 2007 Region H Water Plan for the State of Texas.
